Research and Development

Research and development (R&D) enables continuous improvements of forensic operations at NFC.

R&D at NFC alludes to improve forensic knowledge and develop improved forensic methods. It encompasses methodical, operational and quality developments in many different fields.

NFC is a knowledge-intensive organization active in a subject field of constant vicissitude. Continuous evaluation and development of operational methods and organization are conditions for efficiency and optimal quality within the forensic occupation.

The intention of our research is to contribute new knowledge. The development work implies testing, evaluating and contributing established knowledge and methods to a field of operations where they have not been used before.

NFC’s R&D encompasses the entire operation and includes internal projects as well as co-operations with external partners. The latter may include Swedish and foreign universities, other forensic laboratories, companies or other authorities.

R&D is to be conducted integrated or in close affiliation with operations at NFC and will be included as a natural part of operational planning. The magnitude of R&D projects may vary in working time from a single week to proceed for several years.

Development work may also be necessary in affiliation to a certain case. It is important to assess how the results benefit the operation.
